Pro Hosting Tips

Set the Atmosphere

Dim the lights, play period-appropriate music, and encourage costumes. The more immersive the environment, the more fun your guests will have getting into character.

Pace the Clues

Don't rush! Give players time to discuss and theorize between clue reveals. The investigation is just as important as the solution.

Serve Themed Food

Match your menu to the mystery's setting. Victorian tea sandwiches, 1920s cocktails, or 1950s diner fare add authenticity and fun to the experience.

Capture the Moment

Take photos of your guests in character! Create a photo backdrop or crime scene area where players can pose for memorable pictures.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a typical game take?

Most games run 2-3 hours, though some complex mysteries can take 3-4 hours. The duration depends on your group size, how much discussion time you allow, and whether you include dinner or refreshments.

Do I need to be the host, or can I play a character?

You can do either! Some hosts prefer to facilitate and not play a character, while others enjoy being part of the action. Our games are designed to work both ways, and the host guide provides instructions for both scenarios.

Can I reuse the game for multiple parties?

Absolutely! Once you purchase a game, you can print and play it as many times as you like. However, we recommend using it with different groups of people, as the mystery won't be as exciting for those who already know the solution.

What if I have more or fewer than 6, 8, or 10 players?

Each game includes three versions optimized for 6, 8, or 10 players. If you have 7 or 9 players, use the next size up and have one player sit out or help you host. For 5 players, use the 6-player version and play one character yourself.

Do players need to prepare in advance?

No advance preparation is required! Players receive their character cards at the party and learn their roles then. However, some hosts like to send character names in advance so guests can dress in costume.

What do I need to print?

You'll need to print: character cards (one per player), clue sheets, evidence files, and the host guide. Optional items include invitations, name cards, and decorative props. Most games require 20-40 pages total.

Can I play virtually over video call?

Yes! Our games work great for virtual parties. Instead of printing, you can share character cards and clues via email or screen sharing. The host guide includes tips for running virtual mysteries.

Are these suitable for teenagers?

Most of our games are appropriate for ages 16+. They contain mature themes like murder, deception, and sometimes romance, but no graphic violence or explicit content. Check individual game descriptions for specific age recommendations.
